I run Outlook 2000 on my laptop and Outlook 2002 on my PC. I am having a
problem getting the contacts pst backup file onto my PC. My PC tells me I am not authorized to change the file before transfer, because it is "read only". I cant import it. I cant even change it once it is on the cd before trying to import. Nothing I do seems to work. I tried to export out of the laptop using a CSV file, but the Outlook 2000 says the engine for Import/Export isnt running/installed. If I try to open/read the pst file on the cd from the PC, it tells me I "dont have permisson - access denied." (I didnt know my wife worked for Microsoft). I dont know any other way to get this done. I tried coming here before for an answer, maybe I just didnt understand what was advised. There has to be a simple way to do this. every search I made comes up with 3rd party software, which I know isnt necessary for this operation. Pls help. Thank you, -- bg |

Outlook must have read/write access to any PST file. Move the file to a hard
drive and remove the read only attribute. Then open it in Outlook. Never import or export to transfer Outlook data. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "bgitter" wrote in message ... So Russ, If I shouldnt use the export command, how will I "move the pst file
to the cd? Also, Am I moving just the contacts folder or the entire personal file? -- bg "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Outlook must have read/write access to any PST file. You burn the PST file onto a CD the same way you would any other file, but
only when Outlook is completely closed. Exporting to a CD will corrupt the file beyond repair. You can burn either the entire Outlook Data file or if you only want Contacts, create a second PST file with only your Contacts and copy that. All copy operations must be done with Outlook completely closed. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "bgitter" wrote in message ... Russ, I just got it into the outlook, but it now shows up as a different
contact folder. I have two now, and would like them appended to one. How can I go about doing that? (when I dragged the new one into the old, it just shows it as a sub now.) Thanks. -- bg "bgitter" wrote: So Russ, If I shouldnt use the export command, how will I "move the pst file to the cd? Please try to clarify your question. You're there, we're not. We can't see
what you're talking about, so your descriptions will need to be more detailed and more accurate. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "bgitter" wrote in message ... Hi
Just try selecting all the contacts using 'Ctrl' + 'A' and drag them over to the main Contacts folder. That should do the trick. ![]() Mittu "bgitter" wrote: Russ, I just got it into the outlook, but it now shows up as a different contact folder. I have two now, and would like them appended to one.
