Default Why doesnt' Outlook 2003 synch with ACT! 2006?

Outlook 2003 only looks for the previous database files .dbf and will not
search for ACT! 2006's .pad database. Isn't there a way to make Outlook 2003
search for this latest file format? Prior to the new ACT! 2006, I entered all
contact info into ACT! and did a synch with Outlook to get names and email
addresses...now I can't. Is there a work-around?

Aloha Lee,

Well, the why of it is pretty easy -- when Outlook 2003 was written it didn't
know anything about .PAD files because Act! 2006 wasn't available yet. As
to a workaround -- can Act! 2006 save in .PDF format which you could then
import into Outlook?

Thanks for your reply, Ben...but I don't know if ACT! 2006 can save the database in a form that Outlook 2003 can digest. Are .pdf files viable? I'll certainly look into it. I was looking for an update from Microsoft for Outlook 2003 that would let it be useful to current developing databases (like a virus update). I'm finding ACT! a difficult program which doesn't seem to do anything automatically when it comes to updating...like making sure it's new version would be useful to the many of us using Outlook in a less than current version. I wonder if the latest version of Outlook recognizes .pad files. Does anyone know that? Or is this only a problem that spending more money on software will solve? Thanks, Lee/

Aloha Lee,

Sorry, I said ".PDF" but meant to say ".DBF".

As for the new version - I don't see Act! 2006 listed on the import programs
in Beta 2 of Outlook 2007. Your best bet is probably to get Act! 2006 to
save in an earlier format, like DBF or CSV perhaps.

Thanks for your valuable input, Mr. Ben. I'll see if Act!2006 is capable of
saving in anything other than its current .pad file format. Perhaps Act! is
not interested in being useful to Outlook in the future and wishes to take
over that relationship. It certainly appears as if they are not interested in
playing ball together at this point...since everything is so difficult.

Thanks again,
Lee/
