When I try to edit or type an email address into the Email field in Outlook
2003 it causes it to crash. Everything else seems to work OK. I've tried running the detect and repair, and I've uninstalled and reinstalled Office a few times - and even cleaned the registry to try to fix it. But, the problem still remains! Help! I like Outlook, but this might cause me to switch to something else. |

None of what you did would help. Cleaning the registry? How did you do that?
List the steps that caused this problem in the first place. List the error messages you get. Normally one would repair the Outlook Data File using the Inbox Repair Tool, then create a new Outlook profile from scratch to troubleshoot crashes like this. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Ilikemylaptop" wrote in message ... I accidently forgot to specify that this is in the Contacts section. My inbox
seems to be fine, except now when I try to type a name from my contacts into the To part of an email, nothing happens. It doesn't automatically pull up their email like it used to. I haven't received any error messages other than that Outlook has encountered an error and needs to restart. I tried to fix it by just getting rid of Outlook all together and reinstalling it with the hopes that somehow it would restore something that may have gone missing. Then I would recommend doing what I suggested instead.

I gave it a shot. Ran the Inbox Repair Tool and started a new profile. Still
having the same problem. :-( The Inbox Repair Tool didn't find any problems. Also, as a strange sidenote. When i try to edit the email address in a
contact i can delete the address, add a space via the spacebar, add a semi-colon, and other symbols, but i cannot type letters or numbers. i don't know if that's helpful. I have no idea what caused the problem. It just started happening a couple
days ago. I've been using this version of Outlook for about a year without any problems. I just discovered this morning that sending an email will crash Outlook as well. The email will send, but it just restarts Outlook. Most of your symptoms suggest trouble with the address service. When you
created your new profile, did you do so from scratch with a unique name? Have you checked the configuration of the Outlook Address Book Service to make sure it is functioning correctly? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Ilikemylaptop" wrote in message ... I don't know exactly what you mean by creating a new profile. I created a new
..pst if that's what you mean. I'm also not sure where/how to check the configuration of the Outlook Address Book Service. Thanks for all your help! I really appreciate it.
