When emailing school parents I do NOT want their email addresses to show (so
no one can see each other's email addresses), yet I don't want to use Bcc (I want the parents to see who I sent the email to, for example 'all school' or '2nd graders'). Can I accomplish this using the 'display as' field? Sometimes it works, but if I change a current contact not to display their email address when testing it doesn't always work (maybe I have to re-start Outlook to have changes take effect)? I will also be using distribution lists to email the parents (i.e. 2nd graders, 5th graders, etc), so maybe somewhere in there there's a way to accomplish this? |

No. No matter what you choose for the Display As, the mail address will be a part of the recipient field and any recipient will be able to find the address as long as it's not a Bcc. Outlook (and any mail client that has DLs) will expand the DL when the send occurs. -- Brian Tillman |

How come there are times that I have emailed people and their name (in the TO
header) shows only, without their email address showing? When I look in their contact file the DISPLAY AS field shows just their name...that's why I thought that was what the field was for...??? It's there nonetheless and the recipient can display it if he or she wishes. When I look in their contact file the DISPLAY AS field shows just their name...that's why I thought that was what the field was for...??? It is, but because that's all you see in the message display doesn't mean that's all the field contains. If the name is underlined in the recipient field, double-click it once. -- Brian Tillman |
