I do tech support for the Marine Corp and I have a Col that can't get
autocomplete to work. Here are the specs/details and what I have already tried. Machine is a W2k box with Office 2003, was an upgrade from Office 2000 at some point about 4 months ago. User took this box over this week from retiring Col, previous user never complained about autocomplete. Listed below is what I have tried and in between each possible solution I sent multiple emails to several people to test autocomplete and it never worked. Unchecked settings in Email Advanced Options, closed/reopened Outlook, rechecked and closed/reopened outlook. Tested- nothing. Renamed .nk2 file to outlook profilename.bak, reopened outlook to recreate file, tested again-nothing. Created user a new profile, verified setting in options, tested- nothing. Ran a detect and repair of Office including restoring shortcuts, etc. Tested nothing. After the repair tried renaming the file again and tried a new profile and still not working. The only thing I haven't tried is a new Windows profile, that will be next time I can get in the users office. Are there any other suggestions of things to try besides what I already have? This is a VIP at my base and since my time is limited at his desk I like to have several ideas to try when I get in there. I ran out of ideas when I was up there earlier so I'm hoping someone else has an idea for me. Thanks, TechGirl |

You're the only one for whom creating a new profile didn't work.
Did you give the profile a unique name? How did you test whether it works? What address types are you using? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message oups.com... Well I guess I'm just the odd case.
Yes I gave the profile a unique name that in no way resembled the previous profile name. I tested by sending multiple emails to myself and coworkers. By the third email that still didn't autocomplete I figured it still wasn't fixed. All addresses were internal and could be found in our GAL. I tried selecting from the GAL and sending and typing the addresses manually and sending and neither way tripped the autocomplete. None were abnormal addresses. The only other thing I've seen is some antivirus software setting the NK2
file to read only. See if disabling AV lets it start working. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] wrote in message oups.com... Update: Logged in as another user it still doesn't work. We found the only way to add entries is to launch Outlook in safe mode and they will add and are useable in regular mode at that point. Tried again creating new profile and doing another Detect and Repair and it still will not work in regular mode. I've left the user running in Safe mode 1 for now but I'm not sure what functionality he is losing besides having to start the Reading Pane manually. Still trying to find a solution, will try to have Office repushed to his machine tonight to see if that fixes it. Thanks! TechGirl wrote: Well I guess I'm just the odd case.
