Default Display As Field

Is there anyway to "map" the Display As field? I've initially imported over
1300 contacts from two databases in Outlook. These contacts are now being
exported to a new organizer. Ultimately, the organizer and computer will
"sync" for new entries. However right now, the Display As field is showing
all of the ", Inc." entries as "Inc,...." I'd rather not spend a couple of
hours correcting each entry. Is there any file type that can be created,
saved, and then imported in a way that permit mapping the "Display As"
field?? Thanks for the hlep!

Not that I know of. Like any of Outlook's derived fields, the Email Display
As field can only be changed globally by running code. You might ask in a
programming group if anyone has a code sample for it.
Importing and exporting are always a poor choice for transferring Outlook
data. Why did you use it?

Default Display As Field

Thanks Russ. You asked why I did this. Actually, this was the only way I
knew and can find to proceed. I've got a friend with 2 old Sharp organizers
that contain the 1300 clients records he's accumulated over the past 18
years. He uses them for addresses, phone number numbers, etc. only. He's
not computer literate at all! I've got at least more than "basic" knowledge.
Anyway, he originally got a Palm as replacement for the 2 organizers that
are "dying". He got "ripped off" by CompuUSA that sold him a Palm model with
no software and no user guides! He's had it for months, never registered it
and never even tried to use it. So, I checked it out & found that it won't
work without the software. While I found "upgrade" software on the Palm
site, I wasn't able to get the base software required to make the Palm
function. (And beside, the Palm he got sold is an obsolete model!) Knowing
my friend, he won't call Palm or anyone else for help. Anywy, I researched
and found he could get another inexpensive Sharp organizer that would work.
Talked with Sharp who explained that you can import the data into Outlook and
then to the new Sharp organizer. So, I guess I'll spend the afternoon going
through the "File As" fields one at a time!

I see. Your first post implied that these databases were in Outlook format.
If they aren't, then you have no choice but to import Neither the File
As... fields or Email Display As... fields are formatted correctly when you
import.
