I finally am able to import contacts, make catagories etc!! However, when I
tried to import my contacts list ~ one of the headers - email - did not import. I made sure it was labeled/named correctly ~ mapped correctly, etc., also tried to import just that header ~ All that shows up in the email slot is the first letter of the persons name. It worked on the other computer when I was learning! What do I need to do? I am running XP small business ~ outlook 2002 Thanks!! |

Importing is flawed in Outlook. You should use it only if you need to import
from a different data source. Are you? Never use importing to transfer data from one version of Outlook to another. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Steelcity Gal" wrote in message ... I imported from Excel ~ I did the import from the source workbook - it was
missing the email address (just first letter showed) so then I tried just to import the email column from excel - didnt work - I then made a new spread sheet - renamed everything tried to import and the email addresses still came up with just the first character of the email (it was in the correct place at least!) So then I did a "copy/paste" while I was in the catagory view - but now when I try to send from the catagory (using -actionnew message to contact) it says that "some of my contacts do not have email address and their name will be used. I put all the addresses in! The email address shows both in the catagory view and in the edit contact tab. So how do I fix??!! "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Importing is flawed in Outlook. Did you create a named range in Excel before you did the import?
How did you map fields? -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Steelcity Gal" wrote in message ... (in top left of excel) Named all "Columns" different name than header - Named
range of information (a-g + 1 -155) then i did an "insert name define" Went into outlook - followed the wizard - picked the name of the range to import - it mapped itself so I viewed - all info correctly in right area. did import - email was the only header that did not completely import - just the first letter of the address. I also tried again and when I got to the mapping point I cleared the map and did a drag & drop to map - same results "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Did you create a named range in Excel before you did the import? You need to examine the content of the email field in Excel to be sure it is
in valid format and data type. You need to examine the filed mapping yourself and make sure it is mapping to the correct field, as described he http://support.microsoft.com/default...Product=ol2002 -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Steelcity Gal" wrote in message ...
