Default imported contacts

Here's the scoop.

This was a new new computer initially installed on a peer to peer. The old
computer was running a "copy" of Office 2000. It could not be updated.
(read between the lines)

I could not do a files/transfer wizard because it was x64 from 32 bit. At
that time, the old wizard did not work (new one wasn't available), therefore
we had to copy the files over.

Two weeks ago, we joined the computers to a SBS domain. The messages came
over, but Oulook was set up with personal folders and exchange folders. The
contacts were not present at all. Therefore I copied the .wab file over (old
computer) and tried to imported those in. The message I would receive was
"0" contacts imported and no other error messages. (The contacts have never
been successfully on the new computer in OUtlook either peer or exchange.)

What they had been doing, for a workaround, was that they would open their
wab file from their desktop and then right click and send email. This would
then put the address into the "exchange" contact list for further use until
this could be resolved. This has been working.

However, now one person needs to do a mail merge. So, I "moved" their old
contacts from their pst file into the "exchange" mail. (I removed their pst
data file from their Outlook). So, when you look at their contacts it all
looks like one contact list. Before there was "contacts in personal
folders", etc. This works great while in Outlook 2003. However when they
try to do the mail merge, they can't see their "old" contacts in the list,
only the "newer" ones in "exchange".

One of the ?'s I have is if these are "distribution list" or folders.
Ssince we are talking about Outlook 2000 (NO updates), is the technology so
different, that it would cause problems.

Answers to your questions:
1. They had "contacts in personal folders" (verbatum), People at seminar
in personal folders, hotel contacts in personal folders etc.. Within these
"folders" were contacts. These would not be listed in their address book
under Outlook 2003.(I never used 2000, so are these distribution lists, or
contacts within a folder?)
2. See history above.
3. I have never tried "merge" before as I have never had this issue.

Importing is never the correct way to transfer Outlook data. Provide more
details. There is no real information here. Include:
1. How your Outlook 2000 Contacts differ from the others
2. Why you had to import Contacts at all if you are using Exchange
2. Why you can't merge to these Contacts: What precisely are you doing and
what happens when you try?

I imported/moved Outlook 2000 contacts into Outlook 2003. (Exchange). Now
I
can't do a mail merge with the 2000 contacts, but I can with the current
contacts.

How can I do a mail merge with the 2000 contacts and make them "true" 2003
contacts?

Any suggestions?
