Hi, I'm just recently unable to open individual contacts within Outlook 2003.
Recently installed latest batch of Office and Microsoft updates, and updated Norton virsus/firewall. I've uninstalled the Google Desktop. When either searching for a name or double clicking on one from the contacts list - Outlook does an unexpected shut down and restart. Any suggestions? thanks, Fred |

First thing I would try is to clean up the forms cache.
To do so, follow these steps: 1. On the Tools menu, click Options. 2. Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options. 3. Click Custom Forms. 4. Click Manage Forms. 5. Click Clear Cache. 6. Close all open windows, and then restart Outlook 2003. If the above does not work, try the following. Deleting the Forms Cache File: The Frmcache.dat file is the primary file to delete. The Frmcache.dat file serves as an index of the individual forms that have been cached on the computer. Use the following steps to manually delete the Frmcache.dat file. In addition, these steps delete all of the cached forms on your computer, which are stored in subfolders of the Forms folder. 1.. Quit Outlook. 2.. Search the Hard drive (F3) to locate the Frmcache.dat file. (Be sure to check in HIDDEN files on W2K or WXP.) 3.. Delete all that are found from the FIND window. 4.. Open Outlook. When you restart Outlook, and use a form, the forms cache is re-created. Nikki Peterson "Fred" wrote in message ... Hi, I'm just recently unable to open individual contacts within Outlook 2003. ![]() I tried both solutions, and neither one worked. Any more ideas? It looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. Perhaps it has to do with recent updates, but I would need help diagnosing and fixing that problem as well. "Nikki" wrote: First thing I would try is to clean up the forms cache. I would try using the DETECT and REPAIR option. You will find this
on the HELP menu in Outlook. Nikki "Phyllis" wrote in message ... I tried both solutions, and neither one worked. Any more ideas? It looks like I'm not the only one with this problem. I've got the same problem this morning (1/16). The previous time I tried to
open an individual contact was several days ago and it worked fine then. I have installed quite a few "High Priority" updates from Microsoft Update during that time. The error message I get as Outlook crashes is: AppName: outlook.exe AppVer: 11.0.8118.0 AppStamp:456628bf ModName: plugin.dll ModVer: 1.0.0.6530 ModStamp:42653320 fDebug: 0 Offset: 0000163b I noticed "ModName: plugin.dll" in the error message and tried turning off all plugins, but that didn't help. I also ran "Detect and Repair..." from the Help menu and that process completed without complaint, but the problem opening individual contacts remains. I read the recommendation regarding cleaning up the Forms cache, which I tried (even though I don't use Forms and no forms were listed when I clicked Manage Forms) to no avail. |

I have exactly the same problem as described in this string. My failure mode
also started a few days ago, just after loading the following MS updates: 1. Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130) 2. Security Update for Outlook 2003 (KB924085) 3. Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (KB890830) 4. Update for Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter (KB925534) Do you think that removing any of these updates, if possible, will help? How do we get Microsoft to help us with what would clearly appear to be a Microsoft issue? Thanks for any help you can offer. -- hopethishelps "ajgmisc" wrote: I've got the same problem this morning (1/16). I can tell you that I recovered the ability to open contacts by uninstalling
(using Add/Remove Programs) the updates you label as #2 and #4. I still have #1 and #3 installed. I didn't try to narrow it down further. "dsack3" wrote: ... Forgot to mention:
You might also want to follow the thread titled "Outlook Contacts closes when I attempt to open a contact." Note: It would have been nice to insert a link to the other thread here. If anyone can tell me whether that's possible and, if so, how to do it, I'd be appreciative. |

Thanks for this input - I guessed this would be the answer, but:
Although my MS Update History indeed shows that I successfully installed these 4 updates, I cannot find either # 2, KB924085 or #4, KB925534 in the Add and Remove Programs section of my Control Panel. This is really confusing - any suggestions on how I can locate these updates in order to remove them? Thanks! -- hopethishelps "ajgmisc" wrote: I can tell you that I recovered the ability to open contacts by uninstalling (using Add/Remove Programs) the updates you label as #2 and #4.
