Are you up to date on Windows service packs, etc.? I see the "Show Updates" box on my WIndows XP machines here and can't explain why you don't.
Another option might be to use System Restore to roll back to before the patches were installed. -- Sue Mosher, Outlook MVP Author of Configuring Microsoft Outlook 2003 http://www.turtleflock.com/olconfig/index.htm and Microsoft Outlook Programming - Jumpstart for Administrators, Power Users, and Developers http://www.outlookcode.com/jumpstart.aspx "dsack3" wrote in message ... Sue - thanks again - but the problem remains unresolved. Yes, I am logged in as a user with administrator rights, and no, there is really no box labeled "Show Updates" at the very top to the left of the "Sort By" drop down list. There are no boxes of any type except for the "Sort By" drop down list. For your reference, I am running MS Office Small Business Edition 2003 with Outlook 2003 (11.8118.8107). Sue:
Thanks, and good point. I have not as yet installed SP2 and I just noticed in the MS "Information about the ability to uninstall Office updates" article dated January 15, 2007 that Windows XP SP2 is required. I'll try this and see what happens. Thanks once again. Don -- hopethishelps "Sue Mosher [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Are you up to date on Windows service packs, etc.? I can affirm I experienced the same plugin.dll error(outlook crash). After
uninstalling just one update 2. Security Update for Outlook 2003 (KB924085) my issues in opening new, editing existing, or creating new distribution lists are resolved. KB924085 is the culprit. Also, MicroCenter Support suggested that the Contacts Manager that works with the Whitepages.com add-in is part of MSO Small Bussiness Ed. I have not been able to confirm or deny that statement. I'm just pleased to find that KB924085 was the issue. Microsoft's Knowledge Base does not list the issue or resolution. Kudos to all for your help. "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: Thanks. After I replied to Russ's question regarding add-ins, this thread devolved
into a discussion of why dsack3 couldn't see updates in his Add/Remove Programs list. Does anyone know if there's any further information on the original topic of this thread -- why "Security Update for Outlook 2003 (KB924085)" causes Outlook to crash when one attempts to open a contact? The only causes I've seen reported so far are add-ins, which is almost
always the case when Outlook crashes follow a Security Update. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "ajgmisc" wrote in message ... RUSS: From your answer, I believe you understood that I'd been running the
add-ins I listed in response to your 1/17 (Google Desktop Search Outlook Addin, Exchange Extensions property pages, and Fax Server Extension) without problem until the security update. Does your knowledge lead you to suspect any of those in particular? If not, I will disable them one at a time to see if I can identify a culprit. OTHERS WHO REPORTED THIS SAME PROBLEM (if you're still listening): What add-ins are you running? Do you run any of the same add-ins I listed above? You are on the right track. Add-ins are almost always the problem when
conflicts arise after a Security update since they may be using a hole that the Security update closes. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "ajgmisc" wrote in message ...
