I am working on a creating a database in Access. I will be exporting 2,000+
contacts from outlook into this Access database, however the fields are not the same. In the end I am hoping to link Outlook with this Access file, so I would like to completely customize the fields available in Outlook. Two questions: 1) Is this possible? (in Outlook 2003) 2) If this function is available, will I have to go into each of the 2,000 contacts to customize the fields or is there a way to make the change apply to each of the existing and newly created contacts? Thank you! |

Summary answers from what I think I understand of your
question: #1 - Make changes apply to all contacts? Create a custom form in Outlook and assign it to all contacts in the Outlook folder. We supply a free utility for that on our website and there are several other solutions available on http://www.slipstick.com #2 - Link Outlook to Access? Not thru any generic approach - you'll need to write custom code for custom fields #3 - Fields not the same - Outlook vs Access? Assume you're referring to field names - would be handled by item #2 #4 - Exporting contacts from Outlook to Access? You'll need to use a 3rd party product for any custom fields or write you're own code. There's a quick 'n dirty "copy 'n paste" method but viability may be a tad questionable depending on number of fields for 2000 contacts. In short - "Is this possible?" - depends on whether or not you mean "Out of the box" or "with effort".
