I am trying to add multiple Contacts within a Contact. Is it possible to
edit Check Full Name so that when I am importing data through ContactGenie, that I can have the 2nd and/or 3rd Contact Name not only show in the proper location but be editable through Check Full Name? |

If this is a question intended for me (ContactGenie) - please forward the request to "support at contactgenie.com". This newsgroup is explicitly and exclusively for Outlook questions so any specific CG product questions should be sent to the support email address. Aside from that, don't exactly understand the question or what you're trying to do: On a generic note, there's no facility in Outlook or any import process that I'm aware of that has a "one to many" contact link when importing so on the surface the answer would be that whatever it is that you're looking to do is not possible. When trying to define the value of a Command Button, if you go to Value and
then Choose Field and then All Contact Fields you will then find Check Name... Check Name is linked to the Command Button on the top left corner of a standard Contact Form. It brings up the First Name, Middle Name, Last Name, Suffix... window. Then this data is imported into Full Name. I want to be able to use this Check Name for multiple Contacts, 3 in total, on Page 2. I want to be able to import data through ContactGenie into Check Name for Contact #2. The 3rd will need to be manually inputed. The question is can I use Check Name for Contact #2 and then define a New Field called 2nd Full Name with the Type: Combination and then Format the Combination to use 2nd First Name, 2nd Middle Name and 2nd Last Name. I don't know how to explain it any better then that. And I don't believe this is a ContactGenie issue, otherwise I would ask them. If I understand this correctly, the short answer to your question is "no"
via the approach you outlined for a number of reasons (see alternative option to accomplishing the same thing) #1 - The FullName field is actually a "derived" field made up of the sum of its parts (i.e. FirstName, LastName and all other name elements). The "Check Name...." you're referring to simply displays a quick UI facility to enter the individual components without going to the All fields tab otherwise Outlook will try and determine what the individual pieces are suppose to be based on the data entered in the FullName field. Similarly, if you import data to the FullName field (via Outlook or any other way) - the individual elements are filled by Outlook or alternatively, if you import the data to the individual elements - Outlook derives the full name from those pieces. No more - no less and you cannot over-ride this functionality (that I know of). #2 - Check Name.... is tied to those specific fields so not something you could use as a pass thru to create another "full name" #3 - Again if I understand this right, in order to do what you want, one contact import record would contain the individual name values for for the 2nd and 3rd contact (i.e. FirstName2, LastName2, FirstName3, LastName3.....and whatever other elements). Your objective is to create one FullName field for each comprised of the appropriate individual parts. Not possible the way you described (but certainly will stand corrected if someone else knows this answer to be incorrect). However..............some possible alternative approaches on the assumption that you input data contains the individual name elements in separate fields (i.e. FirstName2, MiddleName2, LastName2 etc etc). #1 - Create the individual fields for your form and make these "Not Visible" on your form. The create another combination or formula field that would result in a "FullName2", "FullName3" etc making sure you take out unnecessary spaces for any missing fields #2 - Pre-process your input data file creating a "FullName2" field from the inidividual pieces in the input data record and import the data accordingly. If the above doesn't address what you're asking - then I'll have to leave it to someone else who hopefully better understands the question better. Irrespective of the approach, since you're using custom fields, you'll need a 3rd party product to import data to custom fields. Thank you for any help you can give me. I was going to try to design a Check
Name type window, but what I found out was that all my user defined fields were blank when trying to tie a combined entry of this data to the command button. I had very limited options for the command button, so I thought I'd see if the Check Name command could work. Maybe you can explain why so much data is deleted when trying to tie it to the command button and how I might add my entry so that it can be tied to the command button. Your questions are out of my comfort zone. Actually, you should pose the
question(s) down the hall in the group that is specifically intended for "Outlook forms". Suspect that you will likely find more and better answers there.
