I am in the process of editing and updating our executive and employee
contact information. Unfortunately the employee before me created alot of
records by cloning and editing off of existing contact files. Now when I go
to delete a record, not just one is deleted, but any records that has any
connection whatsoever to the file is deleted is well, no matter the link. MY
question is this: How can I disable the links between files in contacts, if
I do not know the link that was utilized or created in the first place?
Links may have been generated when a file was created, or the link was
created later on through other data, i.e. notes, names, company info. I do
not want to have to re-enter all of the information from scratch, but if it
is the only way to be able to safely maintain and edit these files I will.
Please send help ASAP!!

Since Outlook doesn't store contact information in individual files, it's difficult to understand just what you're experiencing. Nor does it have any built-in linkage that deletes multiple items upon deletion of one item. Please provide information about your version of Outlook, the links you are describing, and the steps to reproduce the problem.

Hi Sue,
Thanks for getting back to me. Example: I was editing old employee
information yesterday. I deleted only one employee from the folder. When I
happened to be in my deleted files I noticed that approxiamtely 60+
additional contacts had been deleted as well, and not all of them were from
the employee contact folder. I talked to other people in the company and
this is not the first time that this has happened. Previous attempts in
editing these folders have resulted in numerous additional files being
deleted. The only thing that we can figure is that the file(s) that we are
editing may have been created from cloning/over writing/editing an exsting
file, vs. creating a new one from scratch. Since creating files this way may
just continually compound the problem, we figure it would be impossible to
decide what the common link was in the first place to avoid losing contact
information. We have had intermittent problems throughout the company with
this version of Outlook. Is it possible that the probram itself is
corrupted, hence the problems with editing contact files? We currently run
Microsoft Office 2003. I appreciate any help yor insight you can provide.

Again, Outlook has no feature or bug that would delete 60 additional items as a result of deleting one item, nor does it store contacts as individual files. You haven't provided much of a description of "these folders."
