How do you hide your contacts that are marked "Private"? And how do you make
them show up agian?

hide private contacts
what do you mean by "hide"? do you want to see all bar the Private ones?
You could make a filtered view through the Define New View function. How you get to that depends on your version and you forgot to post that crucial piece of data.
