Default How do I format phone number display in Outlook 2003

After checking the dialing properties of both Outlook 2003 and the OS Windows
XP and verifying that they indeed are set to United States, I still cannot
get Outlook to properly format my telephone numbers from a string of text
1234567890 to (123) 456-7890. Please help!!

Brian,

You are my hero. In the Control Settings, "Phone & Modem" dialog box, my
"area code" was set to "1". When I changed it to a three-digit area code
(like "212") the US auto-formatting (xxx) xxx-xxxx started immediately.

Thank you so much!!
John
