Default Caps lock freaks out when using Outlook mail

Hi,
I don't know if this is an Outlook specific problem or not, but it only
happens when I am writing an email in Outlook so I thought I'd post here.

Outlook will open up Word when I am writing an email. I tend to type fast,
and somewhat sloppily, so I may inadvertently be hitting a wrong key.
Anyway, mid-message, the caps lock will reverse and type in all caps when
it's not turned on. And then if I do turn it on, it will type lower case. I
try all kinds of alt, ctrl, shift combos, but nothing works.

Then to make it worse, it also affect opening up emails in my inbox, or even
clicking on icons on my desktop. It will then open EVERYTHING - all the
emails above what I select in the Inbox; or if on the desktop, then ALL the
icons/programs open.

Can you help? The only thing that has worked for me is to Shut Down and
Restart.

Thanks

This sounds more like a keyboard issue than an Outlook issue, to me.

Thank you Brian! I hadn't even thought of that. Is there another message
board that you can direct me to, or how I can do a 'search' for it on the
Web? When I search for things like "Caps lock inverts", etc., it has never
come up with anything keyboard issues.

Well, I'm sure there are hardware forums, but if I were in your shoes, I'd
try a different keyboard to see if it changes anything.

This problem has happened to me though not in Outlook. If I accidently hold
down the Shift key or Control key for too long while typing in Word, it
affects my Caps Lock like that. You may find the answer he

If not, a Google search for "caps lock stuck on" will give you more hits.

Thanks everyone for the replies. Lindy, I followed the steps from that link
so hopefully that will do the trick.

(Brian, I should have mentioned in my first post that it's a laptop - so I
wouldn't be able to change out the keyboard)

That would make it harder for sure ;-) However, many laptops have USB
connectors and you can plug external keyboards into them.
