Default How do I make Outlook recognise my country code?

I am trying to globally change all my telephone numbers in Outlook to a
'cananonical format' i.e. with +44 in front, and then the area code minus the
'0' followed by the number. I have followed the 'help' instructions under
Actions, Call Contact New Call, Dialing Options, but it will not allow me to
select the Automatically add country/region code to local phone numbers box,
as it says 'the phone number format for the specified country code is not
recognized by Microsoft'. I have tried entering my area code alone, and 44
followed by my area code without the 0, but the check box is still greyed
out. Can anybody tell me how I should enter my country code?

I do not have 'modems' in my control panel. I am on a LAN. I'll ask my IT
techie and get back to you.

Thanks
