How do I enable this feature. So I don't have to type in the () and -

We are to assume you are talking about a phone number field? Masking of
phone numbers is automatic once you set your default dialing location for
your operating system correctly

Keep in mind I am working on a mobile laptop, so the area code may change.
But I'm not sure if that even matters.

There seems to be no properties options.

Dialing locations for that OS are set in Control Panel Phone and Modems
Options...
