We are changing our email address, and so I was going into my address book to
note the updated ones. I currently have the old one as email, and had put in
the new email address for each person in email2 field. Is there a way to make
the email2 address the default?

Post is too vague. Changing your email address has nothing to do with your
Contacts. Moreover, you never change Contact data in the address book view.
Explain what you need to do clearly enough for others to understand.
