i recently installed Office 2007 on a new laptop running Vista Ultimate64bit
and then used Easy Transfer to import data from an old laptop using Office 2003. My problem is that despite all the Contacts being imported correctly I am unable to connect the Address book to the Contacts folder I have checked all configuration in the Address Book settings- Outlook Address Book (MAPI) is present but in Properties for the Contact Folder it is not possible to tick the box for "Show this folder as an e-mail address book". The tick box is greyed out. Any ideas on how to resolve this would be very appreciated. |

Didn't bother to read any of the posts here did you?
If you had, you would know that you never use Vista's Easy Transfer with Outlook. It does not work. It creates a corrupt profile in which the address book service cannot be added or activated. Create a new profile. Use one of the many well documented methods to migrate your data to it. -- Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook] "Mark" wrote in message ... i recently installed Office 2007 on a new laptop running Vista Ultimate64bit and then used Easy Transfer to import data from an old laptop using Office 2003. Russ, sorry to disagree. If Vista's Easy Transfer service cannot handle
Outlook data, it should not be an available option. Since Microsoft is the publisher of both products, they should either fix the problem or put in the filter to disallow the operation. If I told my users that they just corrupted a bunch of data because they failed to read the manual, I'd probably get fired. That's the difference between elegant software and just-good-enough software. Sorry if this sounds like a flame. However much anyone might agree with you, the fact remains that Easy Transfer has never worked correctly for Outlook data. -- That is pretty lame! I have just wasted a couple of hours trying to figure this one out. As always Microsoft Help is pretty useless. We are always bombarded with how easy all the MS products are to use, and then we come to find out that something 'Easy' "has never worked". I would much rather have Easy Transfer work correctly than have 'glass' window borders, or fancy Aero windows switching. |
