Default Using distribution lists

My work uses Outlook 2003. I've created DL in my personal email as opposed
to our global email. When I open a new message screen, and try to insert the
Distribution List into the TO: field, it only inserts the name of the
Distribution List and does not insert the actual email addresses associated
with the named DL. How can I send an email using the DL I have created?
