First, thank you Brian and Russ for previously responding. You responded
before to assist me to rebuild my contacts folder. Where I once had 10 contacts folders, I now only have four, one of which is the default. In my default folder, I have 2900 contacts; in another i have 3500. The 3500 one seems to have many duplicates. Since I dont want to just throw away a folder in case it has some info that is not in my default, what would you suggest? My eventual goal once I fix Outlook is to sync to my blackberry. Currently the black berry doesn't recognise my outlook. Secondly, I have have two extra archive folders and six personal folders. I would like to combine them. What is the best way to combine them. Once I have combined them and I am satisfied with what I have, do I have to reinstall BB in order for it to recognise the new outlook? I know this is a long one but it seems like a big problem. |

What is your goal? Is it to merge the 3500 contacts into the default Contacts folder? Is it to keep the second contacts folder but to delete the duplicates? Each has a separate answer. Tell us what you want to do and we can tell you how. My eventual goal once I fix Outlook is to sync to my blackberry. Currently the black berry doesn't recognise my outlook. This all depends on the sync software you use. Outlook is completely passive in a sync operation. There are no settings in Outlook that can control a sync. It's all up to the sync software. Secondly, I have have two extra archive folders and six personal folders. I would like to combine them. What is the best way to combine them. Drag-and-drop is what I'd use. Open the PST containing data you want to copy with FileOpenOutlook Data File. For each folder in the opened PST, open the folder, select all the data with Ctrl-A, then right-click and drag the selection to the destination folder in the default folder set, or use EditCopy to folder. When you're done with all the folders, right-click the root of the source folder and choose Close to remove it from the Navigation Pane. Later, after closing Outlook, you can delete the PST with Windows Explorer or burn it to a CD for archival purposes. In order to select all dat ain a Calendar folder, you'll need to choose a table view like Events or By Category in order for Ctr-A to work. Once I have combined them and I am satisfied with what I have, do I have to reinstall BB in order for it to recognise the new outlook? I know this is a long one but it seems like a big problem. I don't use a Blackberry, but other MVPs do. Perhaps one of them can address this. I do know there are two different sync programs for BB. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

If it can be done, I want to get rid of the duplicates and then move the contents over to the default contacts and hopefully it will prompt me that an existing address is already there and I can say weither no to all or yes to all. I already described the process in detail in the very message you quoted. Please read the entire message and if you don't understand it, ask specific questions. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |
