I too am having a similar problem: In Outlook 2003 there are several Outlook
Address Books with contacts in each book. Many of the address books have lost contacts - completely gone. I can not see them in either the Folder List or the Contact Folder views. They were not deleted nor archived. They are just gone. I have seen other posts with this same problem, but not found any answers given. Please help. And Russ, please don't slap me around for not know the precise Outlook terms - you are supposed to help us not make us feel stupid. thanks "Russ Valentine [MVP-Outlook]" wrote: We have no idea what you mean by "contact list." i am confused - it clearly states in the properties of this "address list or
whatever you call it" - there is a tab for Outlook Address Book and the check box says treat this folder as an OUtlook Address Book - how can you not know this term? i can't describe it any better than that "Gordon" wrote: "gail99" wrote in message ... i open outlook, then go to my contacts. in contacts, i go file, new, folder,
name it and it appears in the list. I change the properties of the folder so that it is treated as an Outlook Address Book. I add contacts to it. All is well for a long time. Now, I browse to that folder, and the contacts within it are gone. can you help figure out where they went? Using Outlook 2003 on an Exchange/Windows SErver 2003 platform. It's OK if you don't know the proper terms. But if you use your own terms,
at least explain what you mean by them so we can figure out what your question is. In your case we would need to know in what view you are seeing "several Outlook Address Books" and what you mean by that. The problem that most people face in this regard is in the address book view of Outlook, which may contain several outdated references to Contacts Folder that are no longer valid. Is that what your problem is? If so, you would remove invalid references to Contacts Folders from the address book view he Tools E-mail accounts View or change existing directories or address books Outlook Address Book Change… If your problem is something else, then state more clearly what it is. Keep in mind that there is no separate address book in Outlook, only an address book view of your Contacts Folders. -- Russ Valentine "gail99" wrote in message ... I still don't understand what the problem is or why you don't understand what
I am talking about. If you open outlook select contacts, you get a list of contacts. you can then select the tab "view" and select current view and then select how the contacts are listed ("Phone List", "By Category", B\"By Company", etc.). I any of the veiws selected, the hidden contacts are still hidden. I can't find any better way to explain it. -- Frank J "Russ Valentine" wrote: It's OK if you don't know the proper terms. Imagine that none of us is sitting next to you watching your screen and
seeing what you're seeing. Then use your imagination to create a post that describes your problem and the steps that we could use to reproduce it. If you can't find a way to describe your problem then perhaps newsgroups are not the best forum for your question and you should call PSS for help. -- Russ Valentine "Frank J" wrote in message ... Some general things you can try until we can understand your issue better:
since there is no such thing as "hidden contacts" in Outlook, it's more likely that you have contacts in more places than you realize, especially since you synch with an iPhone. Use Folder List view to get a complete view of your folder hierarchy and see if Contacts are in more than one place. Also, make sure you aren't confusing what you see in your autocompletion cache with Contacts--they're not the same. -- Russ Valentine "Frank J" wrote in message ...
