Default Edit Compose Page and Read Page buttons are grayed out

I would like to edit a copy of the task form to add a Field to the compose
page and read page; however, the edit compose and read page buttons are
grayed out. What am I missing?

Thank you.

You're missing the fact that the task form doesn't normally use split layouts. Also, the built-in pages of the task form are not customizable.

To turn on split layouts on a customizable page, choose Form | Separate Read Layout.

Not unless you're using Outlook 2007 and want to use a form region to add information. See http://www.outlookcode.com/d/taskform.htm
