Hello,
I have been asked to check into the possibility of changing the default new message for Outlook 2003. We have our own Exchange server also 2003 SP2. The new message needs to have a compulsary job number field that needs to be filled in before the email can be sent. When sent this would have to integrate with the subject field. For example before I start a new email, I must type in a (new) seprate box below the subject field "4782" and just for this example say I put in the subject "New plan of action". When this is filled in I can then send my message. The receiver will get the subject line "4782 New plan of action". I understand external parties won't have the same system but alot of our email is internal and this should help with email filing. Please let me know if this is possible and how to go about it. One last question though on how this form would be affected when we move over to office 2007 some point down the track? Appreciate any help. |

Just thought I would give this a bump after one week.
Any help greatly appreciated. "pmt82" wrote: Hello, I have been asked to check into the possibility of changing the default new message for Outlook 2003. If you had been reading this forum, like you should have been doing, you would know that 80% or more of the questions are answered by Sue Moser, and 95% of the answers are already up on her site, www.outlookcode.com. In particular, the HowTo on setting a new default form is to be found at http://www.outlookcode.com/article.aspx?id=39 . She also runs forums from that site, and, once you register, you can ask programming and design questions there. And yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Clause. You can do all those things you want to do with just a little bit of code. But, if you make that little tiny text field a required field, expect to have daily threats on your life, and weekly attempts at causing you bodily harm. That is just the downside of playing god on the custom forms you force other people to use. WWW.slipstick.com is the other primary source of information about using Outlook and Exchange. You should become very familiar with both. -- Hollis Paul Mukilteo, WA USA |

I am also researching to customize all outgoing e-mail to require a project
number. I'm a bit of a novice in this arena, so I don't know if this is something that's way over my head and, I have a lot of questions. Is this the best place to learn the basics of customizing forms? "pmt82" wrote: Hello, I have been asked to check into the possibility of changing the default new message for Outlook 2003. This forum is good for forms programming questions, but if you're just
starting out you might want to do some reviewing of the forms information at www.outlookcode.com, which has tons of information on that subject. -- Ken Slovak [MVP - Outlook] http://www.slovaktech.com Author: Professional Programming Outlook 2007.
