Downloaded mails not visible in inbox
Thanks, all.
I did follow the suggestions, and I found that it was just a mistake
that had been made in the message rules: mail was being diverted to a
never-used folder.

Some messages cannot be deleted
This is strange. On a friend's PC, (Win XP Home SP2, OE 6) some messages
refuse to be deleted from the inbox. With others, there is no problem.
Any explanation for this?

Can send but can't receive
In OE 6, all of a sudden, I can't retrieve any messages. Sending is OK.
I did turn off my virusscanner, but no change.
When I go to 'send and receive', I get the message 'Unknown error' ...
