I know that Microsoft doesn't support PST file on a share, but a lot
of user have their PST file on a share without problems.

You can use BackupMyFolder! (http://www.addonmail.com/AOMProducts/
default.asp)
It's a freeware that allow you to backup PST file while Outlook is
running or not
