Sorry - brain failure.
Then compare the settings in the Tools | options of the address book. What
order does it look at them in? Make the GAL appear first.

Shared Contacts in Public Folders
Do you usually use the Group By box and group as you like to see them? Do
that in the Public Folder.

Find a Contact
The answer is in the question here. Contacts are not names in a Global
Address List. So the Find a Contact function finds Contacts and NOT names
in the GAL. That's how it is :(

Separate Reminders?
Stop managing work to do using interruptions (aka reminders). Use the
TaskPad as list of things to do on specific days. Set it to Active Tasks
for Selected Days and use Start Date as the date...

all day events don't make dates bold
Yes - make the event show time as Busy or Out of Office. Events default to
Free which doesn't bold the Date Navigator.

Making a public folder your default calendar
What are you trying to achieve? Try to describe it without explaining the
solution you are using already.eg everyone can see each others' appointments
side by side etc.
