Why not two sub-folders of Local Folders i.e. AAInbox and ABInbox. Just
a thought.

select View, Current View and uncheck Group Messages by Conversation.
Next sort the date received column by clicking on...

processing goes round and round demanding ever more memory to complete

have you imported folders using the OE6 option when you should have used
the OE5 option or earlier?

If only newsgroups are compacted it would seem you are selecting Tools,
Options, Maintenance. CleanUp Now, Compact. That is not what Bruce was
recommending.
